Piles of brightly colored frosting combined with moist cake, perfectly sized to eat with one hand. Cupcakes are treats that are not only delicious, but they are also cute and add a touch of creativity to any party. There are some really original ways to decorate cupcakes that will receive "oohs" and "ahhs" from you guests, even before they taste them. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Ice Cream Cones
Make a batch of cupcakes that look like ice cream cones, complete with a swirl on top. A regular batch of cupcakes are mixed and baked. Once the cupcakes have cooled, set each cupcake in a regular ice cream cone and swirl bright colored frosting in layers on top of the cupcake, bringing it to a point at the top. Set a cherry on top or add sprinkles to finish the effect.
Cheeseburger Cupcakes
Cheeseburger cupcakes are made using both chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. Once the cupcakes are made, the tops of each cupcake are cut off. Chocolate cupcake tops are sandwiched between the two vanilla cupcake tops, and then yellow, red and green frosting is used to decorate the top of the chocolate cupcake, making it look like ketchup, mustard and relish. Sesame seeds can be sprinkled on top of the cupcake to make them look even more realistic.
Flower Pot Cupcakes
Cupcakes can be decorated to look like flowers using flower petal cake decorating tips. Flowerpot cupcakes are made using chocolate cupcakes so that the tops look like dirt in a flowerpot. Fruit leather, such as "Fruit Rollup Fruit by the Foot" is wrapped around the bottom of the cupcake to look like the actual flowerpot. Finally, flattened gumdrops and cookie cutters are used to make the flower petals and leaves. Toothpicks hold the flower petals up, and are stuck into the top of the cupcake.
