Cupcakes are a sweet and delicious treat. They come in many different flavors ranging from vanilla and chocolate to more exotic flavors including red velvet or carrot cake. Cupcakes are meant to have toppings. Toppings on a cupcake add a little extra deliciousness to the treat. There are a wide variety of toppings that you can put on a cupcake to improve an already delicious treat. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Sprinkles
Sprinkles are a traditional cupcake topping. Sprinkles are small pieces of confectionery used as a decoration on desserts specifically cupcakes and cakes. Sprinkles have a sugary taste. They stick on icing and create a decoration on a cupcake. Sprinkles can range in colors and shapes. Most sprinkles are multicolored while black sprinkles are known as jimmies. Sprinkles add color and visual interest to basic vanilla or chocolate cupcakes.
Candies
Candies can be used as a topping on cupcakes. Different types of candies including peanut butter cups, pieces of chocolate from candy bars, crushed peppermints, or jelly beans can be placed on top of a cupcake for a sweet treat. This type of topping combines cupcakes with candy. Different types of cupcakes can be inspired by candy toppings. For example, a Snickers cupcake can feature a Snickers candy bar inside the cupcake and as a topping. Different candies can make a cupcake even tastier.
Fruits
Different types of fruits can be used as toppings on cupcakes. Pieces of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, bananas, and other fruits can be placed on top of a cupcake for a fruity topping. Fruit works as a topping when you have cupcakes that are flavored by the specific fruit. Examples could be a raspberry swirl cupcake featuring a raspberry on top of the icing or a banana nut cupcake with a slice of banana as a topping. These cupcakes bring together a delicious dessert and a healthy fruit.
