The advantages to designing your own cupcake liners are that you can adapt them to the theme of your special occasion and save money. Aluminum foil inserts will help maintain the shape of your cupcakes and retain the design of your homemade cupcake liners. Parchment paper circles are a good option because they withstand oven temperatures. To heighten your presentation, you also can make reusable cupcake wrappers out of decorative cardstock; they are not for oven use, however. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Measure 5-inch squares of parchment paper and aluminum foil. Do not use heavy-duty aluminum foil. Stack and trim them into circle shapes with pinking shears to yield several at once with a more decorative touch.
Choose your design for your paper circles. Markers, colored pencils or stamp designs may be used, as long as your artistic tool of choice will withstand medium oven temperatures.
Center each liner over the container. Press the measuring cup over the container. Note that this technique does not yield pleats.
Push down the liners to fit tightly into the measuring cup if you want pleats. Crease the folds to make the pleats.
