Polka Dot Cupcake Ideas

Polka dots are a popular theme for birthday parties and bridal and baby showers, and cupcakes are great way to create that theme. For example, polka dots can be used in Dr. Seuss or Alice In Wonderland themes, and you can make make cupcakes to match the rest of the decorations. Polka-dot cupcakes can be made a wide variety of ways and incorporate any colors, so they will be sure to match your party scheme. Don't be afraid to get a little creative with polka-dot cupcake ideas. Add this to my Recipe Box.

M&M Toppings

Put M&Ms on top of a frosted cupcake to create a polka-dot effect. As a contrast for the dots, pick out specific colors of M&Ms, and use a colored frosting. Mix things up by using small M&Ms and larger peanut- or almond-filled M&Ms.

Polka-Dot Cupcake Liners

Purchase polka-dot cupcake liners. They're made in a wide variety of color combinations, so you can find something to match your party theme. One idea is to choose a polka-dot liner and cupcake toppings that have several contrasting colors and at least one color in common. For example, a teal-and-pink cupcake liner could be matched with pink frosting and orange polka dots on top of the cupcake.

Gumdrops and Jellybeans

Use gumdrops or jellybeans to create polka dots on top of cupcakes. These are both edible and come in a wide variety of colors, so you can match any color scheme you have for a party.

Cupcake Polka-Dot Popsicles

Make cupcake treats that look like a Popsicle. These are cupcake-shaped cakes that are baked with wooden sticks in them, so you can eat them straight off the stick. Cover the cake mix with colored fondant. Use the fondant to create colored polka dots, and place them on the layer of fondant covering the cake mix. Additionally, you can use a cake mix that has colored dots in it to further complement the polka-dot look.
