Curious George Cupcake Ideas

Curious George cupcakes offer a fun addition to a themed birthday party. Create your cupcakes following one design or combine several options. Choose an idea that matches your skill level. Remember to continue the Curious George theme in your display of the cupcakes. Sprinkle banana-shaped candies around the base of the cupcakes, place the cupcakes on a bed of palm leaves or surround the platter with plastic palm trees. Find a recipe for banana cupcakes to take the theme even further. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Decorative Picks

Frost the tops of your cupcakes as desired and add Curious George picks. Purchase picks through a party store. To make your own, print out small pictures of Curious George at home, cut them out and glue two back-to-back around a toothpick.

Plastic Figurines

Purchase small plastic figurines of Curious George from a toy or party store. Wash the figurines in warm, soapy water and rinse well. Frost the cupcakes with green icing or pipe leaves for the frosting. Top each cupcake with a figurine.

Frosting Faces

Print or draw a picture of Curious George's face for reference during decorating. Make or purchase chocolate and vanilla frostings. Frost each cupcake with a thin, even layer of chocolate frosting to mimic Curious George's head. Use a small spatula to spread vanilla frosting in the shape of Curious George's face. Add ears on the sides in vanilla frosting. Color a small amount of vanilla frosting with black gel food coloring. Use a piping bag with a small, round piping tip to draw Curious George's eyes, nose and smile.

Fondant Faces

JustJennRecipes.com recommends covering the tops of cupcakes with a fondant Curious George. Work from a picture of Curious George and draw a template of the face, the ears, the eyes, nose and smile. Purchase or make rolled fondant and break it into two large sections and one small section. Color one large section brown, one large section pale pink or beige and the small section black. Roll out the brown fondant and cut circles to fit the tops of the cupcakes. Roll out the pink or beige fondant and use the face and ear templates to cut out the respective pieces. Roll out the black fondant and use the remaining templates to cut the eyes, nose and smile. Use a small amount of frosting to anchor each piece in place to the brown fondant circle. Allow the fondant to air-harden for a couple of hours. Frost the cupcakes with your desired topping and cover each one with a Curious George face.
