How to Decorate Cupcakes With Sea Creatures

Cupcakes are an alternative to a cake when you are throwing a party or are celebrating someone's birthday. Bake a batch of cupcakes and decorate them with sea creatures when you are throwing a beach party or a luau. These cupcakes don't require too much skill and should be a snap for just about anyone. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Allow your cupcakes to cool completely and frost them with the icing of your choice. After you have mounded the frosting onto the cupcake, use a knife to smooth it out.

Purchase colored fondant at your grocery store or a specialty baking shop. Choose colors that coordinate well with the color of the frosting you selected.

Place a light dusting of cornstarch onto a large surface. With a rolling pin, roll the fondant out to a 1/8-inch thickness.

Press cookie cutters shaped like sea creatures into the fondant. Choose any sea creatures you like, such as starfish, octopuses, sharks, dolphins and turtles.

Remove the excess fondant and slide a spatula underneath the sea-creature shapes so that the shapes don't tear when you lift them.

Place one sea-creature shape on the top of each cupcake.
