How to Have a Cupcake Party

Cupcakes aren't just for kids anymore. Cupcakes have become a popular trend with flavors that range from traditional, such as vanilla, to extravagant, such as red velvet. As for decorating, gone are the days of canned frosting and sprinkles. Icings come in more colors and flavors than the actual cupcakes do, making this a snack that appeals to everyone. The popularity of cupcakes makes a cupcake party a fun way to have a mom's night out, a neighborhood get together or the annual party for your book club. Does this Spark an idea?

Plan your party before sending out invitations. Consider details including how many cupcakes you want each person to bring, how they will be displayed, and if there will be a theme for the cupcakes. As the hostess, you can have first choice of cupcake flavor and you should let the guests know what you will be making.

Send out cupcake-themed invitations that provide all of the pertinent information, including the date, time, and location of the party. Invitations should also include instructions regarding the cupcakes, such as how many cupcakes each guest is asked to bring, whether or not they need to bring their own cupcake display, and info about any cupcake theme you are employing.

Provide guests a place to display their cupcakes. Whether on a tiered cupcake stand, a cupcake tower, or a flat plate, each guest should have enough room to display and show off her cupcakes.

Cut the cupcakes into halves or quarters to allow guests to sample several different cupcakes. Serve with coffee, tea and cold beverages.

Vote on the cupcakes and award prizes for different categories such as the most visually appealing, most unique flavor combination or best overall cupcake. Prizes can be small items that follow the cupcake theme, such as edible glitter, gel icing, cake jewels and toppers.

Send each guest home with a favor. Wrap uneaten cupcakes and divide them between the party guests for them to enjoy at home. Other favor ideas include fancy cupcake wrappers, icing tools, cupcake cookbooks, or cupcake decorations.

Tips

- Consider hosting your party in the mid-afternoon or in the evening to avoid interfering with mealtimes.
