How to Make Golf-Themed Cupcakes

Whether they're for a Father's Day dessert, dad's birthday party or a celebration at the country club, golf-themed cupcakes are an impressive way to honor the golfers in your life. Many amateur bakers are intimidated by the idea of creating themed cupcakes, but these treats are so simple to put together that even kids can help with the decorating. Even better, you don't need to run out and buy fancy decorating supplies or spend hours perfecting every detail of the cupcakes; you can quickly whip these up using basic tools and decorating techniques. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Frost one cupcake with a smooth layer of buttercream frosting, then dip the frosted surface into a bowl of green sanding sugar; if the tops aren't thoroughly covered in sugar, sprinkle more on top. Repeat with the remaining cupcakes.

Cut 12 3-inch strips from the ribbon, fold in half and wrap each around the top of a toothpick to create putting green flags; use double-sided tape to stick the ends of the ribbon together, then cut each flag into a triangle shape. Insert a flag into each cupcake.

Pour 1 teaspoon of sugar cookie crumbs in the center of each remaining cupcake. Use your finger to shape the surface to look like a sand trap.

Scoop out very small pieces of fondant, about 1/16 teaspoon, and roll them into tiny golf balls, pricking the surfaces with a toothpick to create dimples. Place a ball near the flag and in the sand trap on each cupcake.

Tips

- To add variety to the golf-themed cupcakes, create more cakes with different designs. Try using blue piping gel to create water hazards; or put green frosting inside a pastry bag fitted with a grass tip and encircle the putting greens with longer "grass".
