1930s Themed Cupcakes

When you think about theme party ideas, decades such as the 1950s and 1980s may pop into your head as ideal decades to celebrate. If you receive an invitation to a 1930s party, you may be puzzled at first. Many people associate the 1930s with the Great Depression. However, when you take a look back in history there are other things that defined the 1930s as well, such as big band music, Betty Boop and glamorous movie stars. If you are invited to a 1930s party, bring some themed cupcakes to add some tasty fun to the bash. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Betty Boop

Betty Boop remains an iconic cartoon character to this day. Betty Boop was created in the 1930s and is a symbol of the era. Impress your friends by making Betty Boop-themed cupcakes. Betty Boop is known for her red outfit, dark hair and lots of hearts. Make chocolate cupcakes with red frosting (you can add a little food coloring to vanilla frosting). You can also make red velvet cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Decorate your cupcakes with candy hearts as a finishing touch. You may want to put a cutout of Betty Boop in the middle of your serving platter to make your presentation look complete.

The Golden Age of Hollywood

The 1930s is often referred to as the Golden Age of Hollywood. If you are dressing up as a 1930s movie star for a party, bring matching cupcakes. Prepare vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting. The cupcakes can be homemade or made with store-bought mix depending on your baking skills. Decorate your frosting with edible, gold-colored baking dust. This product is only a few dollars and can be found at most craft stores. Brush the dust onto each cupcake with a watercolor paint brush. Gently add a few star-shaped sprinkles or edible gold sugar balls to your desserts.

Snow White

Since Snow White remains a popular Disney cartoon in modern times, it's easy to forget the film dates back to the 1930s. Serve your friends Snow White cupcakes. You can make one batch of cupcakes that have blue or yellow frosting representing Snow White's signature dress colors. Print out small pictures of the seven dwarfs to use as cake toppers. In addition, make a second batch of apple cupcakes as a symbol of the apple that the wicked queen poisoned Snow White with. Make a basic cupcake with red frosting. Give your apple a stem using a small piece of black licorice or a piece of a wafer roll cookie. Make an apple leaf using green fondant.

Big Band and Swing Dance

If you are attending a big band and swing dancing party, keep suit with the theme by bringing music note cupcakes to the gathering. Making music note cupcakes is relatively simple. You can either make or purchase vanilla cupcakes. Take dark frosting in a tube and draw music notes onto each cupcake. Create different types and sizes of notes so that your presentation has more variety. If you are not very artistic, you can even order plastic music note cupcake toppers from an online store.
