Ideas for Monster Face Cupcakes

Give your little monsters a treat for Halloween by decorating cupcakes to look like their favorite monster characters. Get some ideas on ways you can decorate your next batch of cupcakes to look like a Frankenstein, a hobgoblin or a creature from the sea. Monsters made out of frosting and candy can have spooky and sweet effects at your next Halloween party. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Frankenstein

Use candy, fondant and frosting to make an adorable miniature Frankenstein to spook your guests before they eat. Cover the top of a cupcake with brown-colored buttercream icing. Roll out a thin sheet of bright green fondant and cut out a rectangle with a craft knife. Cover a giant marshmallow with the green fondant and place it in the center of the cupcake. Use green candy mints to make the bolts for either side of the monster's head, and pipe on facial details with black and yellow frosting. Use black or brown buttercream to give your Frankenstein some hair.

Furry Monster

Squeeze several drops of orange food coloring in a batch of white buttercream icing to make a happy and furry monster that kids and adults will love to gobble up. Fold the top half of an icing bag in half and slide a plastic coupler base into the bottom of the bag. Fit a medium-size star tip over top and screw on a plastic coupler ring. Fill the bag with the mixed orange icing halfway and unfold the top and twist to secure. Hold the bag at a 90-degree angle, with the tip lightly touching the cupcake. Press the bag with steady pressure form a base of a star. Continue pushing with the same pressure pulling up to create vertical fur. Stop the pressure on the bag and pull away. Repeat over the entire surface of the cupcake. Add candies to create facial features.

Horned Monster

A horned monster is fearsome to behold, but fun to eat when it's on a cupcake. Make this monster with blue buttercream frosting and yellow fondant. Roll small portions of fondant into creative horn shapes and allow them to dry for 24 to 48 hours until hardened. Frost the top of a cupcake with blue icing and insert the dried horns at the top right and left of the cupcake. Use white and black icing to pipe on beady eyes.

Gorgon Monster

Gorgons in Greek mythology were creatures much like Medusa, they were female and had live snakes for hair. Make your cupcake look creepy by using licorice whips to simulate snake-like creatures. Frost a cupcake with your favorite color of buttercream. Insert small sections of black licorice whips over two-thirds of the cupcake to make hair. Pipe extra large monster eyes out of white and black frosting. Make your monster look extremely spooky by giving it an extra pair of eyes.
