How to Make Cupcake Critters in Baking

While you can always decorate cupcakes with a layer of frosting and sprinkles, there are lots of other ways to create a memorable batch of cupcakes. When you are baking cupcakes for a child or for someone who likes insects, consider decorating the cupcakes so that they look like a creepy crawler critters such as lady bugs or worms. Making insect cupcakes is less complicated than it seems, such that even novice bakers can do it. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Frost your cupcakes using red icing. Smooth the frosting out so that it is flat and does not have peaks. This ensures your candy decorations will go on more easily.

Place round chocolate candies on top of the cupcake to create the lady bug's black spots.

Place a black gumdrop on top of the front of the cupcake to create the lady bug's head. Push two licorice strings inside the gumdrop to create the lady bug's antennae. Continue this process until all of the lady bug cupcakes are decorated.

Earthworm

Frost your chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting.

Crumble chocolate cookies and sprinkle them on top of the cupcakes so that it looks like they are covered in dirt.

Place a gummy worm on top of the cupcake. Continue with this process until you have completed all of the cupcakes.
